Dr. Satake received B.A. in pure mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley, M.S. in Applied Statistics and Ed.M in Psychometric Measurement Evaluation from Columbia University, and also Ph.D in Applied Statistics and Mathematics Education from Columbia University. Dr. Satake has published several textbooks about research and quantitative analysis in the area of communication disorders (with Dr.Maxwell) including (1) Theory of Probability for Clinical Diagnostic Testing, RonJon Publisher, Denton, TX, 1993, (2) Research and Statistical Methods in Communication Disorders, Williams&Wilkinson, Baltimore,MD,1997, (3) Research and Statistical Methods in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Thomson Delmar Learning, etc. Also, he has published and presented numerous number of research articles concerning Bayesian Statistical Methods, Mathematics/Statistics Education, and cross-cultural validity studies about mathematics achievement and anxiety, such as (1) Bayesian Polling Technique : 1992 Presidential Polls, Communication Research, 1992, (2) Using n by m Contingency table to determine Bayesian probabilities, The AMATYC Review, 1994 (3) Mathematics achievement and anxiety among Japanese and American children, Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1995, etc.
Dr.Satake's research interests are applications of the Bayesian statistical methods to the various fields of Communication, Probability Logic, and validity studies. He is an avid squash and nationally-ranked court tennis player. He and his wife Mary live in Framingham, MA, with an exotic short-haired cat.
