Overview

Too often SLPs neglect the fact that children with cerebral palsy have a motor disorder that impacts their communication and feeding. In the same way that intervention is specialized for clients with hearing impairment, autism, and apraxia, treatment for children with cerebral palsy requires a specific focus on motor impairment.
This book is intended to help therapists working with children with cerebral palsy and other neuromotor disorders. It provides practical clinical interventions for children with cerebral palsy from expert clinicians and evaluates evidence to support these practices. This book highlights problem-solving and critical thinking skills necessary to assess and treat the feeding and communication needs of this heterogeneous group with central motor impairment. This book focuses on Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) which is used extensively by PTs and OTS, but only rarely by SLPs. It describes how NDT can be combined with other modalities to offer the best quality of care.
