Doody's Core TitlesWe are thrilled to announce that Doody’s has released its Core Titles in the Health Sciences for 2013 which includes 21 Plural books! Doody’s Core Titles in the Health Sciences 2013 is aimed primarily at medical, nursing, and allied health librarians around the world who are charged with making the book buying decisions for their libraries within budget guidelines.

A core title is a book or software title that represents essential knowledge needed by professionals or students in a given discipline and is highly recommended for the collection of a library that serves health sciences specialists.

The process for selection is quite rigorous, with almost 200 library professionals undertaking a four-step process:

  1. Content Specialists in each of the 121 specialties make initial selections of core titles for each specialty.
  2. A panel of up to three Library Selectors in each specialty reviewed the selections made by the Content Specialist and have the opportunity to add titles to the list.
  3. The Library Selectors score each title on the final list, rating each core title on a scale of 0 – 3 on five different key collection development criteria.
  4. Library Selectors indicate which titles in each specialty are Essential Purchase Titles. Essential Purchase Titles are defined as those titles recommended for purchase by a small library.

We are extremely proud to have books from all three of our areas of specialty— Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, and Otolaryngology —represented on this list, with seven new titles making the list in 2013. The following is our complete list:
