Video Atlas of Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery (book and DVD) aims to demonstrate techniques to medical professionals worldwide involved in the care of cleft lip, cleft palate, and related abnormalities, such as velopharyngeal insufficiency. This concise resource reviews the most salient procedures and techniques for cleft lip and palate cases, as well as the medical considerations surrounding these cases, namely maxillofacial, anesthetic, and speech considerations. Provided in each chapter is a “pearls and pitfalls” section that reflects the broad experience of the authors.

Additionally, the accompanying DVD includes 30 high-quality videos that illustrate the fundamental step-by-step approach to carrying out various procedures. Preview a clip from the DVD on "Primary Repair of Unilateral Complete Cleft Lip".

Reviews

"...This is a multi-author hardback book... The the immediate impression is of a quality publication. Sharp colour illustrations, nicely printed line diagrams and, of course, the disk which is invaluable...As you would expect, this must be the definitive guide to all aspects of the work involved in congenital defects of the lip and palate..."

"The book obviously concentrates on the knife to skin surgery. It works from anteriorly, the "simple" cleft lip, bilateral cleft, then posteriorly onto palatal defects. Rhinoplasty is well covered and I was very impressed by Table 13-3 for the series of questions that guides surgical decision making. As a novice, I found this very incisive. Revision surgery is clearly a challenge, but is gratifying to see how faces, usually in adults, are salvaged and transformed by expert work. Speech disorders, prosthetics and correction of velopharyngeal incompetence close the text book.

For any unit engaged in such work, this must be an essential reference. For trainees, it could inspire an interest in work that is very rewarding and for which there is still a massive international need."
Liam M. Flood, FRCS, FRCSI, Middlebrough, UK, in the Journal of Laryngology & Otology (April 2014)

"The book details operative techniques with illustrations and demonstrates them with videos. It covers techniques for unilateral and bilateral cleft lip as well as cleft palate and midface/nasal surgery associated with these deformities. Both the illustrations and the videos are helpful in demonstrating these techniques. This is a high quality resource, with good illustrations and videos. It is a good surgical reference for individuals wanting to learn more about the technique of cleft surgery. 4 Stars!"
Alan Micco, MD (Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine), Doody's Review Service (July 2014)

"This is a well written textbook containing basic background information and surgical techniques involved in cleft lip and palate surgery. The information is bestowed upon the reader in a clear, concise and logical way whilst being supplemented by sharp patient photographs and diagrams. These images are arguably one of the biggest strengths of this textbook as they are presented in such a manner that aids the reader in understanding an often difficult to comprehend subject. Furthermore a DVD is enclosed providing high quality real time video footage of the topics and procedures addressed in the book. This textbook is an excellent resource for any plastic/ENT/maxilofacial surgery trainee, particular in the run up to fellowship exams. I can highly recommend it as a reference text to come to grips with the basic principles and some of the techniques available for repair."
Adam Gilmour, MBChB, Specialist Registrar in Plastic Surgery, PMFA News (Apri 2014)
